Though we have (somewhat) discussed this topic b4 ~ I was compelled to post this. No need to reply. But there’s something/someone that really needs to “see” this thread. I am truly experiencing an Angelic type of assistance/nudge here.

Just one definition of Astral Projection and the technique.

Astral Projection:
To will the conscious mind into the soul body and then to project ones conscious self out of the physical body into the etheric realm. The length and location of the projection is preplanned and preprogrammed. The project requires an altered state of awareness such as a deep meditation. The physical and soul bodies are attached through the solar plexus by a silver cord.

So many different names and acronyms for the same thing can get confusing. That is one of the reasons people get out-of-body-experiences (or OBEs) confused with APTs. The difference is:

An OBE is directed by the sub-conscious mind, the soul if you will, for purposes of spiritual evolution.

An APT is directed by the conscious mind, for many different reasons, some spiritual, some for fun and some for escape.

In astral projection you remain attached by a silver "umbilical type" cord to your physical body - though you may not see it. You travel out and are aware of things you encounter along the way.
To astral project, as with all out-of-body experiences one must feel totally relaxed, clothing fitting comfortable, reclining is best. Often a comforter is best over the body as the physical body sometimes gets cold when you travel out. You can practice alone or with one person.

Find a quiet place . . . free of distractions. . . Adjust the lighting and room temperature. . . Adjust clothing . . . footwear . . . eyeglasses. Sit down or lie down . . . Find a position that is comfortable for you . . . Quiet your mind . . . Still your thoughts . . . Relax your body. . . Your face . . . your jaw . . . relaxing . . . Your shoulders . . . your neck . . . relaxed Your arms . . . your hands . . . feel at peace . . . Your torso . . . your hips . . . letting go . . . Your legs . . . your feet . . . totally relaxed . . . Focus on your breathing . . . Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose . . . Retain the breath as long as is comfortable . . . Exhale through the mouth slowly and completely . . . Repeat for two more breaths . . . or as is comfortable.

Let go of the fear of leaving your physical body. Remember you do it when you sleep.
See yourself floating away from your physical body. You may feel as release or perhaps hear a sound as you leave.

THE MONROE TECHNIQUE
Step One:

Relax the body. According to Monroe, "the ability to relax is the first prerequisite, perhaps even the first step itself" to having an OBE. (out of body experience). This includes both physical and mental relaxation. Monroe does not suggest a method of attaining this relaxation, although progressive muscle relaxation, coupled with deep breathing exercises (inhale 1, exhale 2, inhale 3... until about 50 or 100) are known to work well.
Step Two:
Enter the state bordering sleep. This is known as the hypnologic state. Once again, Monroe doesn't recommend any method of doing this. One way is to hold your forearm up, while keeping your upper arm on the bed, or ground. As you start to fall asleep, your arm will fall, and you will awaken again. With practice you can learn to control the hypnologic state without using your arm. Another method is to concentrate on an object. When other images start to enter your thoughts, you have entered the hypnologic state. Passively watch these images. This will also help you maintain this state of near-sleep. Monroe calls this Condition A.
Step Three:
Deepen this state. Begin to clear your mind. Observe your field of vision through your closed eyelids at the blackness in front of your. After a while you may start to notice light patterns. These are simply neural discharges. They have no specific effect. Ignore them. When they cease, one has entered what Monroe calls Condition B. From here, one must enter an even deeper state of relaxation which Monroe calls Condition C-- a state of such relaxation that you lose all awareness of the body and sensory stimulation. You are almost in a void in which your only source of stimulation will be your own thoughts.
The ideal state for leaving your body is Condition D. This is Condition C when it is voluntarily induced from a rested and refreshed condition and is not the effect of normal fatigue. To achieve Condition D, Monroe suggests that you practice entering it in the morning just as you are getting up, or after a short nap.
Step Four:
Enter a state of Vibration. This is the most important part of the technique, and also the most vague.
Many projectors have noted these vibrations at the onset of projection. They can be experienced as a mild tingling, or as if electricity is being shot through the body. Their cause is a mystery. It may actually be the astral body trying to leave the physical body.

For entering into the vibrational state, he offers the following directions:
1. Remove all jewelry or other items that might be touching your skin.
2. Darken the room so that no light can be seen through your eyelids, but do not shut out all light.
3. Lie down with your body along a north-south axis, with your head pointed toward magnetic north.
4. Loosen all clothing, but keep covered so that you are slightly warmer than what might normally be comfortable.
5. Be sure you are in a location where, and at a time when, there will be absolutely no noise to disturb you.
6. Enter a state of relaxation.
7. Give yourself the mental suggestion that your will remember all that occurs during the upcoming session that will be beneficial to your well being. Repeat this five times.
8. As your breathe, concentrate on the void in front of you.
9. Select a point a foot away from your forehead, then change your point of mental reference to six feet.
10. Turn the point 90 degrees upward by drawing an imaginary line parallel to your body axis up above you head. Focus there and reach out for the vibrations at that point and bring them back into your body.
Even if you don't know what these vibrations are, you will know when you have achieved contact with them.
Step Five:
Learn to control the vibrational state. Practice controlling them by mentally pushing them into your head, down to your toes, making them surge throughout your entire body, and producing vibrational waves from head to foot. To produce this wave effect, concentrate on the vibrations and mentally push a wave out of your head and guide it down your body. Practice this until you can induce these waves on command. Once you have control of the vibrational state, you are ready to leave the body.
Step Six:
Begin with a partial separation. The key here is thought control. Keep your mind firmly focused on the idea of leaving the body. Do not let it wander. Stray thoughts might cause you to lose control of the state.
Now having entered the vibrational state, begin exploring the OBE by releasing a hand or a foot of the "second body". Monroe suggests that you extend a limb until it comes in contact with a familiar object, such as a wall near your bed. Then push it through the object. Return the limb by placing it back into coincidence with the physical one, decrease the vibrational rate, and then terminate the experiment. Lie quietly until you have fully returned to normal. This exercise will prepare you for full separation.
Step Seven:
Dissociate yourself from the body. Monroe suggests two methods for this. One method is to lift out of the body. To do this, think about getting lighter and lighter after entering the vibrational state. Think about how nice it would be to float upward. Keep this thought in mind at all costs and let no extraneous thoughts interrupt it. An OBE will occur naturally at this point.
Another method is the "Rotation Method" or "roll-out" technique. When you have achieved the vibrational state, try to roll over as if you were turning over in bed. Do not attempt to roll over physically. Try to twist your body from the top and virtually roll over into your second body right out of your physical self. At this point, you will be out of the body, but next to it. Think of floating upward, and you should find yourself floating above the body.

I've meditated before but have never reached the state of vibration.So after the light patterns, there will be vibrations?
I take sleeping pills and its really hard to do this at night. I usually have best results in the afternoon when I don't have to work and when nobody is home.....twice a month, lol.

I will have to get past the light patterns. Great info on the stages and what to do when you've reached a certain stage. Thanks for posting this Seraphim.

Has anyone here reached stage 7?
I've had out of body experiences before. It just happened, never on purpose. Twice when I was sick with a fever, and twice through spiritual experiences.
It'd be great to get there and stay awhile, while I'm in control.

I have had a few, but not intentional. I was really ill one morning and fainted in the bathroom. I recall seeing myself on the floor, and I really did not want to go back. Then---whoosh, back in body. Sick as I was before. I really liked the floaty feeling.
Another time I had not slept in several days, finally just collapsed on the bed in sleep. I was instantly floating over myself seeing me on the bed. I hovered near the ceiling for a very long time. I think I woke some 12 hours later.
Good experiences were in dreams, as in flying over the Earth and visiting other countries. Such nice dreams!

Thanks for that Seraphim. The only thing this doesnt really mention is that when you are outside your body, you are basically in the astral realm and you are exposed to all that is there. There are all sorts of things there as well as earthbound spirits. Some sort of protection needs to be in place. I think you need to be in touch with your higher self.I know i do this whilst asleep ecause john has told me and he does watch over me when I 'am spirit'

He doesnt let me wander out of my house.

Last wed had surgery on a ruptured ligament in my hand. I usually never remember anything while under anaesthetic but can recall flashes like a dream during it and can remember someone telling me i was out of my body. I even remember telling the male nurse in recovery when i came too that i was out of my body. He said "out of your body eh?" in sarcastic sort of way so know he didnt believe me.John says he tolld me i was out of my body because i asked him where i was. He said he held me so i wouldnt wander away.

Not only that he has told me stuff about the op and i need to ask the surgeon today on my post op review.

You’re welcome Trace! Ahhh ~ Protection while in the astral travel/projection out of body state. Perhaps that was the reason behind of the post? It’s a blessing to have John holding on to you (literally). He'll always be protective. Maybe on your next travel he could escort you to the world beyond or the outside world? LOL!

The Warnings: Never assume that all of the inhabitants of the astral realm are friendly; many of the different inhabitants will be willing to help, but others will be ambivalent or plain hostile. Protect yourself on the astral plane by imagining defense weapons or by popping to a different location. If neither approach stops the attack pop, back into your body and travel again later.
- Never leave your body unprotected while you are away. Prior to entering the astral door look back at your sleeping body and visualize a white light of protection around it.

Hi Ben,

The "experts" I have heard say that our brain releases chemicals (endorphins) when in great stress or pain, and this is what causes OBEs. I have been in both situations---horrible pain and stress. I have never had an OBE at these times. If this is true, there would be lots more people having them. Especially women in labor, footballl players, ect. I have seen people in such pain they were "throwing up".Why no OBEs? This is a comment on the naysayers.

yeah I see your point, I have gout, it flares up once or twice a year and is extremely painful and last for days at a time with out letting up. sleep is nearly impossible but after so many hours I'll just pass out from the pain and fatigue, but even then nothing like that has happened. I have been trying to practice the meditation when I am completely relaxed but I am having trouble with quieting my mind. the problem seems to be that when I am relaxed my mind is most active and when faced with extreme stress my mind is quiet. it's all ways been a gift when the stuff hits the fan and I can control the situation but is making meditation seem impossible. what do you think about hypnosis or would you have any other suggestions that might help?

Hi Ben,

I too have Gout problems, and it is the second most excutiating pain that I have ever felt. Crippling is the word. You have my complete understanding & sympathy.

Without getting too personal, I want to ask you how your doctor is treating it? At first my doctor gave me medicine to control it, which worked very well. After a couple months though, I realized that I could not live with taking medication every day for the rest of my life if there was any alternative. I change my diet (many foods have a profound effect on gout) and got back into a regular exercise habit. I lost weight, feel better and I have not taken any medication or had a gout problem for over three years now!

I hope this is helpful to you somehow.

My ex use to have big problems with gout and he was treated with Indocin and it seemed to work, but changing your diet is about the best way to control it. That is great you have had no more gout problems Canis!
