Found graves of men who fought in the US revolution and the US civil war

Hi all

I was down near Princeton last week. My daughter was attending a Special Olympics day camp and since it is 60 miles from our home, I stayed down there while she was attending the camp. I did some sight seeing.

I had heard that Lawrenceville was a historic town so I asked the receptionist at the camp how to get there. this part is funny - she said she had no idea, and she was sure there was nothing historical around there. LOL... read the rest and see my photos and you will see how clueless she was.

Lawrenceville is also known as the village of Lawrenceville as well as the Main Street Historic District, which was listed in the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 1972, one of the first registered historic districts in New Jersey. Lawrenceville was founded as Maidenhead in 1697. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington's troops marched through Maidenhead after the Battle of Trenton (25 December-26 December 1776) and the Second Battle of Trenton (2 January 1777), chasing British troops. They met at the Battle of Princeton on 3 January 1777, just over the township line, where the Princeton Battlefield State Park now stands.

First I found the church, which you will see from the sign is one of the oldest in America and is still an operating church.

I walked around taking photos of the graves, and then was shocked and happily surprised to find graves of men who had fought in the revolutionary war.

I also found a grave of someone who had fought in the civil war.

too bad nothing historical is in the area, right?
LOL

I was so excited - can not express how exciting it was to find these. I found some later that week from the civil war - will post them hopefully later tonight.

As usual a great story, historical find & photos. I like knowing that the graves are being maintained. BTW I hope your daughter enjoyed that camp.

Peace, Love, Light & Happiness.

I found this one. The first one is of a man that fought in the War of 1812. The second is of his son who was killed in the Civil War.

Did you guys notice. Jacob Comer was born in 1799 which meant that he could have served at the age of 13 and maybe was as old as 15 when the war ended.

I promised to add those photos of the other civil war soldier graves I found that week - here they are.
they were in the Princessville Cemetery, very close to Lawrenceville and south of Princeton.

the most exciting for me was the grave of a man who had fought in the colored troops of the Union in the civil war.

this man is honored and buried with other soldiers from the civil war as well.

this small cemetery was on the road to Princeton but not well marked and beside a dirt road, so i was excited to find it on my own, and when I saw the colored troops gravestone it actually brought tears to my eyes.
