This is a very old gravestone. It was cracked and broken in places, but it had this sun with an arc over it and angel wings coming off from behind it. Interesting indeed.
Arch - Victory of life; or victory in death
Sun shining/rising - Renewed life
We all know what angels symbolize but I thought it was curious instead of an angel it just had the wings coming off the sun. I had never seen anything like it before.
The winged sun is a symbol of royal dignity from the Ancient Kingdom. This is an ancient Egyptian symbol which represents the journey of the sun. Ra was the creator of the world, ancestor of the pharaohs and god of the sun (symbolized by the solar disk) and skies (symbolized by the wings).
I did find this explanation - perhaps it applies here: Winged face - Effigy of the soul of the deceased.
Maybe it is not the sun but just a winged face?
Some kind of leaves or branches are below it as well. Not sure what kind. ever seen one like this?
