I would to like start a thread or book club if you may. One that we’d be able to simply share our ideas & talk about the Jesus Religion Book. (I’ve asked permission of the author of course. ☺ ) I’m looking at July 1st – 5th. Once I receive confirmation of who obtained & have read the book we could begin the thread. It is however open to all A&G members. Anyone is welcomed to share their ideas & opinions once it beings. I think it would be both educational & somewhat personal in the sense of our inner thoughts coming to life via the page & perhaps facing some of our fears of the afterlife (if applicable). So what do you think?

I too have a personal relationship with him but was never in a religion that gave me a context for it. So our conversation is different... partly because I don't have preconceptions and partly because I ask different questions.

If you read scripture carefully he keeps telling US to be LIKE HIM. My understanding is that he was saying we are ALL part of God/Father (in Aramaic is was 'sacred union') and we can follow HIM to that understanding.

The religion about him and the interpretations came hundreds of years later... and were codified by a Roman Emperor.

Jesus was about acceptance and forgiveness. Somehow the religion became about fear, sin and eternal consequences?

All I can do is share my experiences on the other side rescuing ghosts and working with angels. I always hope it's a helpful perspective.

Neither God nor believing in his holy name is the issue or the subject matter of/in the Jesus Religion book. I too love him more than life itself yet his true message or the meaning of… & our existence is not what we were taught it to be. (I hope that makes sense???) Please allow us to speak, converse & to share our views of the each verse, context, page & chapter before bowing out. It'll get better. Or somewhat easier to swallow. lol!

No that this is not a good forum, but it's a very limited audience.

It could be a hosted blog with it's own domain (easy to do) or on Blogger or WordPress.com

I really think people need to start thinking for themselves and not allow the churches to do it for us. We are all grown adults here...I just thank God that it didn't take me that long to realize what was going on before it came too late.

Honestly...I have tried so many other churches...since I was basically raised Catholic from early childhood until I was 19 years old. But I have tried other religions...Mormon, Christian, Baptist, and a few others. They are all based on one thing...and that's fear. I don't want to walk through life always fearing everything, and even the God I love so much. We shouldn't have to always feel that way.

It's so basic and simple...live your life as you always have been, live it with lots of love, patience and understanding, do good and believe in him...and that's all you need to live happy.

It is so obvious that all these religious leaders and churches are only after two things...MONEY and POWER.
They know right there that GOD is the most powerful..and what a better way to make money...using his good name.

This is how I also feel about religions...how can we put a price on God's head? What I mean by this is...I can walk into a Christian book store..looking for some good book to read about God. Why do they place a price on that book? Isn't that selling God? placing a price on his head? Yes it is...Honestly...things like that should be free. When Jesus walked the earth during his time..he didn't pass around a money basket when he talked to the people. He didn't sell books or bibles to his people. So why do they feel compelled to put a price on God now?

Lets use a good example here...lets take Jim and Tammy Baker...a couple who decided to preach the word of God...ok..that's cool with me. Then they start to built this huge empire...but it was built on the money from the people, the ones who sent in huge amounts of money just so Jim and Tammy would pray for them.
Then you see that Tammy has these huge diamond rings on her fingers, and gold jewelry...then comes the mansion that they live in...etc. But then it all comes to a crashing halt because Jim Baker screwed things up, he stubbed his toe and got caught.
Why is it that these big tv church people always want your money? send us your money and we will pray for you. I can get on this computer and place a prayer request and have a ton of friends and family praying for me within just a few minutes, and not have to pull money out of my pocket to have it done.

Christian faith...now here's a good arguement...my two kids..they were both members of the Christian church up here where Ilive. Their pastor wouldn't even say hello or acknowledge me because I was not of their faith. But I never put inot my kids heads about what faith they needed to follow...that was their own decision. But they found out for themselves when it came down to this...
When my daughter wanted to get married...she asked her pastor to marry them, she even offered to pay for him to do it. These were his exact words to my daughter...
Since her fiancee was not of christian faith...he stated this...
I will marry and Christian and a Christian...and I will marry a non christian and a non christian...but I will not marry a christian and a non christian. Now what kind of crap is that!? Who cares! she loves the guy and they love each other very much..marry them! who cares what they are or what faith they hold. They found a really nice pastor from another church to marry them.
Here was my comment and question to that pastor of that church when I ran into him downtown...I said...ok Mike...here's something I want you to answer me...When Adam and Eve were placed upon this earth....did a man in clothe come down from the heavens holding a bible, and stand before Adam and Eve and read the marriage vows to them? Did he make the both of them sign a piece of paper stating that they were both married? The only thing he could say was...they were married in the eyes of God.
The only reason...that marriage is performed in churches today is....BIG MONEY..marriage itself is big money..so why not jump on the band wagon and get rich.

I could go on for days...and dispute religions, because there are so many mistakes and flaws within it.
We don't need a church, or a building, or a man in clothe holding a bible...none of that! for us to have our own personal relationship with God.

Some churches believe that Jesus is God, some churches say that God and Jesus are two different subjects. Being God is Jesus' father. Some churches say that there is no God not all...so what one is it? Will the real Jesus..please stand up. That's just it though...every single church has taken from the scriptures and chopped added and subtracted so many times that people are now so confused...they don't know which way is up or down.

But yet these churches will be the first to tell you that there way is the only way to salvation, and if you don't follow their way...then you either belong to a cult, or your a devil worshiper. I follow no religion...so what does that make me? I have a bible in my house, I have other religious items in my house...so am I a lost sheep amongst the herd? No...but they will be the first to label me a sinner....ok...for those who are not sinners...please feel free to pick up that heavy stone and throw it at me.

What it all boils down to is this...we don't need a church or faith for us to have a relationship with God...we don't. Besides..we'd all save a heck of a lot of money by just doing it ourselves.

Here's one for all...I was homeless for 5 years...not by choice, but by a losing our jobs. I even had my two kids with me the whole time. They too suffered right along with me. I thank God we had a tent at least to sleep in.
But I called every single church I could for help, seeing if someone from any church would help us. I even found the gas money by collecting cans and bottles to put gas in my car to drive to these places in search of help...not one single church or religious leader would help us...not one. Did this make me lose my faith in God?...No...never. It made me lose my faith in the church. It was when I personally prayed to God himself..one on one..that things started to happen, and we pulled ourselves out of the dirt.

I just know what I have seen...and experienced over the years...I am now 49 years old..and I have seen just about everything when it comes to religion. It just sucks that people are so brainwashed by it.

You've had a lot of difficult experiences with Christian churches and I agree many do not come close to their stated philosophy.

May I address the 'it should be free' issue, since you brought that up when I came on the list?

Books cost money because someone wrote it and needs to make a living and should be compensated for their efforts. The book store makes it available to you. The distributors make the book available to book stores nation wide. You get the value of the book and the people who created that value get compensated. Their energy gives you energy and you give energy back in the form of money. A medium for exchanging energy between people.

Most of the spiritual or religious services that look 'free' are not. The congregation is paying for it or the mother church is. Priests are paid and get room and board. Nuns and monks get room and board, etc. Ministers get paid and are usually given a place to live.

Jesus, (Yeshua, in his native Aramaic,) had an entourage of wealthy women who made arrangements for him and paid his expenses. He had to eat and have a place to sleep and while some of that may have been donated, there was an organization that set things up and paid for it. In this regard he said 'The workman deserves his reward' meaning people like him, who are helping others, need to be paid for what they do.

Anyone who dedicates themselves to this work (healing, writing, speaking, whatever) has to make a living. If they have to do something else to make a living they are not available to do the work. Time, availability, has a price. It's not selling God it's paying for the livelihood of the people who dedicate themselves to the work of God.

All that said... there are major abuses of church donations and abuses of church power. They should be addressed, but perhaps one should not throw out the baby with the bath water?

I had a yard sale...and I had some religious items out on my table. I had people ask me how much for the items and I told them they are free. They looked at me puzzled because I said that. When I explained that I wish to spread the word of God for free and not charge. Also by telling them that I hope they recieve as much enjoyment as I did by having them for as long as I did.
I basically considered it a gift I enjoy giving things to people, and if it can place a smile on their face when they recieve it...then it made my day.; ▶ Reply to This
