Those who prey on people's fear.
I think it is time to expose people who prey on those who feel they are being haunted. There are true, psychic’s and then there are charlatans who call themselves “psychics”. They charge people who have been living with the fear they may have a ghost. In many cases there are children involved, these children are scared to sleep in their own beds. They also, in some cases increase the fear the people already have.
These are the rates for one of the places I have found at a certain website:
Consultation Fee: $150 (30-45 minutes)
Ghost busting fee: $250 Per Hour + Travel
Their pictures, they claim to be ghostly images are nothing more then camera movement and shutter speed, and the pictures that were taken, were of a car. Great ghostbusters when they can not even tell what they have in a picture, huh.
The next website I found her charges are as follows:
30 Minute Spirit Depossession Session $250.00
60 Minute Spirit Depossession Session $350.00
90 Minute Spirit Depossession Session $450.00
She requests payment is as follows; “Due to credit card issues, payment must be made through Money Order or Western Union transfer. No pictures were listed on her site.
Now the next lady, I personally have had contacted by email because she was the person I was informed about. I have four email in which she replied to mine. Her site does not include any prices, and her ghostly pictures are eight pictures with what looks to be dust orbs.
When I found out Ruth, new member here, was looking for some answers, I found out she had contacted this lady by phone to reach out for help. This is what she told Ruth, and Ruth relayed the information to me “ $275 to come to the house and she had lowered her fee due to the economy but normally charges $200 an hour”. Well I about fell on the floor knowing people were making that much money off of others fear, also I was mad!
Ruth had talked to her on the phone, she was told this by the lady, that her spirit guide was telling her that the male ghosts had attached himself to Ruth’s son-in-law, but when I questioned the lady on her authenticity in a email of her being a psychic, she responded to me, “no I don't do readings over the internet. Yes I can but I personally do not trust the energy. I only read people who come to my office for a reading. Anyone who does readings over the internet shouldn't be trusted because there is too much interference”, this was taken from one of the email.
When I asked this lady what her she charged this was her response, “normally don't put pricing over the internet but I understand your concern and hear your urgency in the matter. We charge 275.00. It may take us from 2-3 hours depending on how many spirits and how many questions your family will want us to answer.”, this of course is by the hour. Of course I asked her, “I need to know one more thing.” How long will this take? Will this be a one time visit?”, and her response was. “yes it should be a one time visit. As long as no one is channeling or has any entities attached to them it should be very straight forward.”, how much you want to bet that someone in my house was going to have an attachment, she had already told Ruth over the phone, “that her spirit guide was telling her that the male ghosts had attached himself to her son-in-law”.
I just hate the fact that we have people out there who prey upon people in need, living in fear day to day is awful. I hope that all investigators who go into private residences have the knowledge to perform cleansing for their clients to prevent these charlatans from profiting off of fear.
I am happy however we got the help Ruth needed from a group in Canada where she lives. This group in a email to me said, “I'd love to know the name of that "ghostbuster". Our services are free, we have traveled across the province at our cost for this. It is a science. 200 an hr would mean almost a grand for most investigations. That is disgusting.” I give David Gibb and his group, C.H.A.P.S. much thanks for helping Ruth in this matter.

Mr. Gibb is setting Ruth up with a group near her home and is also requesting they have their medium along with them. He also made it a point to let Ruth know no one would charge her any money.
It is very true that the paranormal is a science, and we still do not know all we would like too. Each investigation is a learning experience. I hope in writing this that people will understand that and you should not be charged. If someone wants to charge you please search for help elsewhere. Check out your local Paranormal groups before you contact a medium who charges.

Aahhhhh. Soft persuasion.
First of all thank-you for helping Ruth. And thank-you for the site.
I can defiantly relate to the ‘putting the fear’ in people tactic in order to gain monetary retribution, spiritual acknowledgement and the communities respect (through fear or the peoples curiosity). We, here in Hawaii, have been diseased with the same type of characters. They’d ‘talk’ you into believing something that never really existed. Yet the catch is…. You choosing to believe it or not. They’d ‘show’ you things that no one else is able to see then turn round & sell it to the next person.
I have witnessed retaliation in a psychic’s way. The power of prayer but in a negative way. You see, these spiritual abusers possess fears as most do – built upon guilt, ignorance & old emotions, which motivates them to continue. Most times they truly have the ability to communicate, free/release , clean & rid of unwanted energies, yet they also have the ability to generate them as well & will. If they can’t use the spiritual world to help them, then there are many living people who would be more than willing to succumb to their every desire.
May God & all of our heavenly Angels, Archangels, Goddesses & loved ones protect us from these types of predators. Karma’s a killer. Lol!

Fear is always used to control others. We produce it, then we cast our own fears upon other people. I could see someone who is good at crossing spirits and removing bad energy charging a fee, especially when there is travel involved. However, some of the mediums I know will also help people for free - they follow their inner guide and are not out to soak people with hogwash. A good medium will bring peace and not fear. I personally have no issue with those who bring peace, love and light to those who are suffering, even for a fee.
Those who bring truth (and not fear) are worthy of their hire, for there are so few who do so it seems. ;C)

I wanted to get my comment on here..but I had to give myself a few minutes before I do cause I am just waking up...(stretch!....Yawn!)
Paranormal research is still to this day just that..."Research" so much more physical proof is needed before we can even call ourselves true Researchers and psychics, mediums..or what ever gift you hold.
But how I feel about psychics and mediums or any one in this field of work...should be doing this as a gift...ever watch the movie.."Pay It Forward"
I have never once charged for anything I have done...something that comes from the heart and not from the pocket book. This is how I see it...for what I give to people and things of this earth...will one day open that door for me when I do die and cross over. I don't need money...I'm not rich and live only on my husbands pension each month, but what I do is from the heart. I'm not looking to become rich by helping people who are in fear or need, but to gain a friend or a hand shake because I saved someone from that fear.
This is a world to where we need to look out for each other, to help each other. To look beyond our petty differences and extend a hand. I don't sit in someones house and speak with the ghost there and when finished say..."That will be $20" That's nuts...why..because I know one day..that will be paid forward for someone doing a good deed for me.
I know every single member/family on this website knows truely what Karma is, and as long as we give out good karma...good karma will be returned to us.
When I was given my gift from my NDE...that's exactly what is was.."A Gift" it was given to me. Not with money nor payment..but a gift. I feel that those people who have received a gift should do the same...pay it forward. They should also be the ones spreading that gift and helping those in time of need.
Lets take a look back of the time of the World Trade Center...a time of total destruction..so many lives lost. But of those who jumped into the pile of rubble looking for dead bodies..were these people being paid? No
This was done on a volunteer basis..why..because being an American...it was the American thing to do. Knowing that these people that laid below the rubble were dead...it was within the hearts of these volunteers to help seek them out without even thinking of being paid for their services.
What is wrong with these people who prey on people in fear? The most prefect opportunity to suck the money right out of them. Sure I agree with LC about maybe they should be reimbursed for their gas and I feel to buy them lunch for their time. But to go so far out as to charge fees that are way beyond the vicitms means...is outragous!!
This time and era..is when we should come together and work together..helping those in need. For a eldery lady whos only means is social security or a pension..which is a set income..no more or no less. Wanting to clear the home so that her grandchildren can sleep in peace and not be haunted by pesky ghosts. This lady has a extremely good heart. How can one take advantage of that? Yes..this lady lives on a set pension...she is not rich with money..but rich with love and concern for her family and grandchildren...how can you argue with that?
Ruth...I just want you to know..if I need a much better means of transportation, as to if I knew my car would make it that long of a distance, I would have been there already knocking at your door and doing a cleansing. Whether you had ghosts or not..it doesn't hurt to do a cleansing anyways just to bring back the positive energy within the house.
Tkay worked hard on her computer to find a group that would assist Ruth with her problem..she worked hard. Did she ask for any money for her job? No..but instead did it out of the goodness of her heart, and knowing that one day..the good karma would come back to her deeds well done.

Thank you all. I just got really up-set that these people get away with this stuff. Fear has controlled people from the beginning of time. Although time and time gain we tell people not to show any fear, it is hard to do not to show it. In the last email from the Southern Ontario Paranormal Society (SOPS) stated, " We are strong advocates for no charge services as well. We will be discussing this issue at length at the upcoming Can-Am Paracon in August 2009. I feel that the issue is becoming even more relevant as the veils between the dimensions become thinner, and the economy gets worse!", I am glad there are others out there that are aware of this issue.

Glad you brought this to light!
I know this hasn't been mentioned, so I'll just throw it out there. Even churches don't take payments on blessings or Spiritual healings. Some old school, bible pounding religion/churches uses fear. But for the modern church nowdays, they've toned down alot of the fear factor and consertrating on spirituality.

Thank you! Joe, thanks for reminding me of the modern churches. Here is a link to the Spiritualist Churches in the U.S., I have been told they do not ask for money, I can not say that for sure, just what I have been told. It is fummy that the "ghostbuster" says on her webpage,
"SHOULD I GET MY HOUSE BLESSED?
NO, THIS MAY IMPRISON THE EARTHBOUND SPIRIT IN YOUR HOME. FIRST LET THE SPIRIT LEAVE THE HOUSE THEN GET IT BLESSED."
