What is going on, what could they want and what is that thing?
Okay here we go. I am 22 currently I am working on my degree and taking care of my daughter so my grandparent have allowed me, my husband and 15 month old daughter to live with them. I grew up in this house and I love this house. Sometimes the things that happen here make me uncomfortable BUT I’ve never really felt like I’m in danger. I just want to get some opinions.
At one time, WAY back, this was an army recruitment office (I think during WW2) My great-grandfather bought it and built onto it, making it a house. He eventually sold it to my grandfather about 19 years ago. I have lived here most of my life. When I was younger weird things would happen. Looking back I can’t really take any of those experiences seriously because I don’t know if it was due to an active imagination. Now that I’m older I’ve noticed that there are many things that just can’t be explained.
I think the most active spirit in this house is the shadow man. He’s about 6 ft. 6 in. It’s not like a shadow you see on a wall, it looks like there is actual mass to him. Like if I were to go and touch him there would actually be something there. I most often see him down the hallway towards my grandparent’s room. I’ve also seen him standing in the middle of the living room. I’ve actually gotten pretty used to seeing him, though he does sometimes startle me. He has gotten VERY close without me even realizing it. On a few occasions I’m rounded a corner in the middle of the night to be met with nothing but pitch black, assuming that it’s just my eyes I’ll continue forward and then it’s bright again. Like he stepped out of the way or I passed through him. Our house never really gets THAT dark; we have an old street light right outside the house. For him to block out the light like that he would have had to of been standing less than a foot away from me. Are shadow people bad? Do you think he sometimes waits for me to come around corners? Or is it possible that he’s just roaming the house and I just happen to catch him off guard sometimes.?
The only other thing really visible very often in the house is the cat. It’s very large, I would say it’s about 2-3 feet tall when it’s sitting. It’s also really…wide? I guess would be the best word. Sometimes when I see it, it appears to be yellow and see though but I can actually make out features. Other times all I can see is a black shadow of the cat. I’ve caught it from the corner of my eye just sitting there, I’ve also turned and have seen it straight on before it disappears. There have also been times that I’ve seen its tail end walking into a room. I don’t know what to make of this thing! Any ideas on what it could be? I think the only time I have ever been terribly frightened of it was when I was coming back from the bathroom one night. I felt like I was being followed and I started to get that ‘run’ feeling. I finally stepped out into the washroom and the feeling stopped. I looked back and through the cat door (that separates the washroom and dining room) I could see his face. It sounds weird but it looked like he was smiling…or she…I dunno.
Apart from visual things we also get a lot of audio. Sometime when me and my hubby are up late and everything is quiet we can hear two men and a woman talking in the living room. We’ll get up and go to see who it is only to find that no one is there. Our room was once the garage but now it’s been remodeled into a small apartment like setup. The living room is actually on the other side of the wall that is closest to our bed. There have been times that we can feel the vibration of the voices through the wall.
They get even more vocal at times. It’s always the same voice…as if it’s not creepy enough it sound like jigsaw from saw (never seen the movies but I’ve seen the commercials) But I personally have heard this voice when I’m alone making a bottle at night or catching up on laundry or getting a drink of water. He usually doesn’t say much to me, usually just one word…eg. He’s said ‘Hello’ ‘Scared?’ ‘It’s okay’. Those freaked me out enough as it is but then he stepped it up a notch. At first I just thought it was the tv acting up or something then there were small responses that seemed too direct to ignore. One night my hubby and I had a big fight, he went to bed but I felt like crap. I didn’t want to wake him or our daughter so I sat in the living room and cried then I heard ‘don’t cry’ . Another time my daughter didn’t want to go to sleep and I was frustrated, I went to make a bottle and heard ‘just a baby’.
It’s not just me that has heard this voice. My husband heard ‘I love you’ come from nowhere while me and my daughter were taking a nap. He’s also said that he’s heard muffled talking outside the bathroom door when he had his midnight potty break, like it’s trying to have a conversation with him.
My brother had also heard it. He came to visit and got up to make a sandwich and get a soda. Midway through making his snack he heard what he said sounded like “shouldn’t you be in bed?’
I don’t know what to make of all of this. Our cats have noticed it too. We have one that usually sticks around in our apartment she sometimes meows and chirps like she’s after something when nothing is there. Or she’ll run to her food-bowl and no the “yay wet cat foot” dance like someone is standing there about to give her her treat.
There is another cat, she’s my grandparents. At night I’ve seen and heard her running up and down the halls freaking out and hissing like she’s fighting with another cat (even though ours is still in our apartment.)
This is turning out be longer than I thought it would be, sorry for that. There have been others things, but these are the major ones. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. It's getting to the point that I feel like they just kind of take over the house at night...I don't feel as if we would be harmed...it's just weird...

I was just about to ask that question also about your grandfather...it's him that's still in the house...I mean spiritually. That's why you are not harm at all...because these spirits are at peace and also at peace being with you and your family. There is absolutely nothing to fear.
The black shadows that you see only means that the spirit is not that close to the light, meaning he/she could be either lost or doesn't want to go near the light. But they mean no harm to you at all.
Cats...yes, animals can also be spirits/ghosts, they felt comfort in that house and so they remain to stay. But the cat that is living in the house, animals have the best perception when it comes to detecting ghosts. A animal will be the first to sense, and see before we will. This is why I own 3 cats, and I also have a black shadow in my house.
The voices you hear such as telling you not to cry, and also saying "you shouldn't you be in bed" that sounds like family...deceased ones. Or it's simply a ghost that has adapted well to your family and feels as if they are a part of your family.

I think you might be right. Either my great-grandpa or my great-great grandpa. My great-grandpa wasn’t very tall but according to my grandpa my great-great grandpa was very tall, so I’ve often wondered if it’s him. I’ve never met him of course but by grandpa says he was a good man and was fond of this house because his son had built it.
I don’t fear him he just catches me when I’m not expecting it. I think the only person who has ever felt threatened was my hubby when he first moved in. He said he saw a tall shadow with a cowboy hat staring him down from across the kitchen. Lol, he said it felt like he was in trouble and was about to get yelled at like “Boy you best not mess up” (his words not mine)
As for the cat I think I might know what cat it could be but that cat was black and wasn’t nearly that big. Do you think their appearance can change once they pass? But it was the closest cat I’ve ever had and it DID enjoy chasing me down the hall. I think he was picked up by someone because he suddenly went missing. It wasn’t until 5 years later that my neighbor called and said he might have found the cat I was looking. He had left out that the cat was no longer living and had passed away under his porch either that morning or the night before. I know everything about all my cats right down to the smallest detail even the stays that live in our shop. So I knew it was him, I think he must have been trying to get home and just didn’t quite make it. He’s buried in the back yard. It might be him. I hope so, it would be comforting to know that he’s home now.
