Who has understanding of Sonar? Working on tracking EMFs

Of what I understand about Sonar, is that it sends sound out and when it hits something, it pings back. So, like a dolphin swimming, it sends it out, it hits a wall, and it knows. When you look at it, the wall does not move. But, when it hits a fish, it pings back, but it continues to ping back and shows it moving from one point to another.

I am working on a design that will track EMF, no matter how small or big. The idea is to do a constant EMF Sweep in a room and monitoring the changes of EMF.

Basically, power lines and electronic devices have a EMF to it and does not move. But paranormal activity has EMF as well, but moves. The EMF will change up and down, but can be charted on its movements.

My husband just told me that Sonar is too wide of a sweep, it might not work in a smaller room. But it's worth trying.

What does your husband think about line to sight? I wonder if I have it send out and received by a number of receivers to translate the findings, and returned the same way. I thought about figuring out to create a fish net effect to be able to get the sweep to work. But I am still researching and designing. Any thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Sonar involves the transmission and reception of pressure waves (high frequency audio). These will ony bounce back when they hit a solid object. EM fields are not solid objects and will therefore not cause any reflections.

It could be used to monitor an object. A cheap car reverse radar unit setup facing any object in a drak room could be used to setoff an alarm if the object moves. However, the same thing is possible using infra-red and microwaves.
