I automatically thought Johh would speak Irish but he doesnt. He knows a few words and his grandfather used to speak it a lot and teach him some words but John didnt want to learn it. IN the records, John's fathers name was spelt the English way.
I wanted to ask you about the whiskey. Do you know how they used to make this whiskey illegally?
Was the poteen the same as whiskey today. What could the secret ingredient have been? John has tried to explain to me somethign about this and mentions corn or maize but he confused me by saying something about they were different or the same thing. I cant remember what he said now. He tells me his father would be drunk often and fight with his mother and make her cry. Often the farm didnt produce because John's father had a hangover or what Johns says "not making money". It seems that is what they used to say in a roundabout polite way when someone was seedy and couldnt work from drinking too much whiskey.
I have got most stuff on him from the records here and I believe his birth records etc do not exist now because of a fire in a church that held the records.
The info about the theft and his father is from John tellign me that. That isnt in the records. It only says his father was charged with manslaughter. John's was listed as felony.
I have had some very good conversations with him Marti. He has told me how to make a whip handle to how to make stew. He made me laugh because while telling me how to make stew , he said he puts in "one potato" and it was just the way it had to be one potato. He was also going on to me once about foxes. He said he wasnt allowed to trap the foxes and his mother who was english told him not to do it because they would get into trouble. It seems to me like the english did not allow foxes to be trapped or something like that. They coudl trap rabbits but not foxes. Have you ever heard of this? He said he didnt care and he still trapped them and his mother would not cook it so he did. He has even told me how you skin a rabbit lolllllllll.
He says his father made his own whiskey and he made good whiskey because he had a secret ingredient and his whiskey was known around the area as being very good.It was blackmarket whiskey or something.
He also tells me about how he washed his pigs before they went to market. That is in Ireland. He said they bring a better price lol.
He says that when he went to church, his father made him sit up the front and he didnt want to.
When he was bored he would make noises and his father would look at him sternly. His mama was not allowed in the catholic church. The priest would not allow it so his father went to another parish.
He also tells me a story of him and his brother eating too many blackberries and feelign sick and his mother was worried because she didnt know what berries they ate.
There isnt any set rule with collecting evp as people have collected them on cassette tape and digital but I will tell you what I use.
I use a digital notetaker with USB . Mine is a Sony middle of the range type. Olympus brand make good notetakers as well but you know, any cheaper notetaker will do the job.
I went for maximum recording hours in a model as you might want to leave it going in a sleepover somewhere which I have done and got evp while asleep.
I also store my best evp in a separate file on the recorder just in case I lose them off the computer. My recorder has good earphones adn the quality if pretty good from it. I dont have the option of being able to play it out loud for people to hear. They have to use the earphones but headphones or earphones are the best way to hear them really straight from the recorder.
When I investigate I alternate my recording from control situations where everyone remains quiet and we ask questions, leaving time for the spirit to answer. I introduce myself and the others and explain what the machine is and what we are doing. Its always a good idea to do this as spirit are people, just without bodies and they like polite interaction and respect as well as any living person.
I also will just turn it on and carry it around with me even though there is noise and I am talking because you will be surprised just how they will comment on a discussion you may be having with someone else.
If you carry it around with you , secure it somewhere where it wont move around too much.
At the beginning, let everyone (living) that you are recording for evp and ask them not to whisper or if they do make a noise and whisper, to declare it was them or what the noise was. It makes it so much easier when going through it all later.
There is no need to whisper really. I am guilty of that at times but will then remember and state it to the recorder.
Fresh batteries at the beginning of an investigation is a must.
I go through my recordings with earphones straight from the recorder as that is the clearest I hear them. I eliminate what I dont want by cutting where I want and deleting. I do this because you can get hours and hours of recording. I do make a point of listening to everything, no matter how boring and believe me it does get boring. You dotn want to miss anything though.
Another thing also is that if I am not sure I always keep it and go over it later. You dont always hear something at first. I have, in fact, gone over recording that I kept for some reason, a good 6 months later, and was stunned to find a really good evp that I had missed.
The more you listen to them , the more you become in tune to hear them. At times they can be really quite loud and other times they can be whispery and you have to listen for that. That is why its important that people do not whisper. If you are with people and they do it and dont state that, make sure you do for the recorder.
You will often notice little clicks and a reduction in volume around your evp. I dont know why this happens but think it has to do with the spirit affecting the device in some way.
Always date your evp on your computer.
There are some good audio programmes around to enhance your evp but try not to enhance too much as it then makes them harder to hear. I always say that if you cant hear at least some of the voice and what it is saying without altering, then it isnt worth working on .
Take note of the places you record for anything that will come up on the recording. Wind, rain and movement play havoc.
Once you start getting voices, you are going to be hooked lol.
I converse with an irish ghost group from around Dublin. I am so jealous of all the places you have over there to check out. A couple of the girls in our group are now wanting to save and investigate in Britain. I had planned solely to visit Ireland as I wanted to not move around but get to know one place fully instead of bits and pieces. My grandparents are from Wexford and so I wanted to meet some rellies who probably dont even know I exist.
I also wanted to see where John (spirit) came from. If you want to know who John is, take a look at his page under John F Lynch (spirit) He is an irish spirit who lives with me.
Good luck with your evp
